Fellowship Support
All fellows are guaranteed two years of full support by the Division, ensuring board-eligibility. It is anticipated that most fellows who wish to pursue a path in academic medicine will seek support for additional training with the help of their research mentor.
All fellows are highly encouraged to apply for the Department of Medicine Specialty Training in Advanced Research (STAR) Program in conjunction with their application to the ID fellowship program. The STAR Program provides support for additional training, formalizing the research of phase of fellowship as an M.S., M.P.H., or Ph.D. program. In addition, multiple training grants are available through various departments at UCLA, including the Program in Global Health. Finally, fellows are encouraged to apply for individual grants such as the National Research Service Award (NIH F32) or Mentored Physician Researcher Award (K23 or K08), with the guidance of their mentor and the Division.
